Wildfire Mitigation Assessments Available for Homeowners
We’re inspired by the number of landowners in our community
taking proactive steps to reduce wildfire risk
and protect both their property and our shared landscape.

The West Region Wildfire Council (WRWC)
offers professional wildfire mitigation support
for landowners in Gunnison County,
including project design, contractor bidding, and project oversight. Although WRWC does not currently have funding
to cost-share vegetation management in our area,
taking the first step now will put you in the queue
for future grant funding,

which could help cover part of your costs at a later time.

How it works:
WRWC will provide a cost estimate for designing and managing
a mitigation project on your property.
It includes a site visit, project layout, a Scope of Work,
contractor bidding, and oversight.

You will receive the estimate via email,
with an option to sign electronically or by mail.

Once signed, WRWC will schedule a visit and begin preparing your project.
There may be a delay due to high demand.

When funding becomes available, your “shovel-ready” project
will be included in future grant proposals for cost-share support.

If you prefer not to wait, you can move forward
using a contractor of your choice.
WRWC can still manage the project to ensure it meets mitigation standards.

By preparing now, you will strengthen your eligibility for future grants,
help build a stronger, community-wide funding proposal,
and be ready to implement as soon as resources become available.
To learn more or to start your assessment process,
visit www.cowildfire.org
or call the WRWC office at 970-615-7300.
