Bear Alert!
An adolescent black bear has recently broken into four homes
on Red Mountain Ranch Lower Loop.
According to the Colorado Division of Wildlife,
in its brochure, Living with Bears,
"bears that get too comfortable around people
can destroy property or even become threats to human safety.
Habituated bears must often be euthanized."
"To help keep bears alive and wild, do not feed bears;
be responsible about trash and bird feeders;
burn food off barbecue grills and wash after each use;
keep all bear-accessible windows and doors closed and locked,
including in your home, garage, and vehicles;
and do not leave food, trash, coolers, air fresheners,
or anything that smells in your vehicle."
Red Mountain Summit Trail Hike and Luncheon
The Crested Butte Land Trust benefit,
which took place on August 9, was a huge success!
For over 30 years, the Crested Butte Land Trust has worked with partners to preserve scenic vistas, wildlife habitats,
our ranching heritage, and recreational opportunities.
Jake Jones, Executive Director of CBLT
and former professional mountain guide,
and Greg Glosser, Red Mountain Ranch Board President,
led the hike up Red Mountain.
Peter Dea, Geologist, and CBLT Board Member,
explained the fascinating geology that makes Red Mountain “Red.”
He also explained the volcanic origins of the basalt boulder fields
that were crossed on the hike.
Following the hike up Red Mountain,
drinks, hors d’oeuvres, and a delicious lunch
were served by Emily Harwell of Crested Butte's Personal Chefs.
Proposed Address Changes
The responses to the proposed address numbering changes
were overwhelmingly positive!
There were 13 written comments: 11 in favor; 2 against.
The Board will proceed to finalize the changes.
Executive Board Update
Two open Executive Board positions
have been filled by Jason Martin and Marla Crockett.
Their willingness to serve is very much appreciated by the HOA!
Stewardship Team Update
The Board has received the much-anticipated report
from the Colorado State Forest Service
(Forest Health and Protection Division),
which contains the results of the mountain pine beetle study.
The report summarized the research.
The results are very encouraging!
The HOA will continue to partner
with the Colorado State Forest Service on this important work.
The Forest Service supplies its products and labor at very reduced costs, and its contribution has been invaluable.
